
Authorities verified that a 14-year-old child was shot in the back on Christmas Eve in Jackson after a minor fight became violent. The event took place at approximately 5 p.m. According to the WILX, a physical altercation between teenagers on Seymour Avenue allegedly resulted in 17-year-old Marquise Lamar Young pulling out a gun and shooting the unidentified victim.
Following the shooting, the victim was rapidly transported to a local hospital by a family member and fortunately, the injuries were not fatal as he was treated and released, as reported by WLNS. Young, identified as the shooter, was located by Jackson Police near E. Ganson and Orange Streets after the shooting and taken into custody, the FOX 47 News states that he was charged as an adult with Assault with Intent to Murder.
Young's bond has been set at $250,000, and the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office has firmly proceeded with the accusations. With a probable cause meeting set for January 3, the case looks set to go quickly and may potentially start a protracted legal battle for the young defendant. Future court hearings and the 14-year-old victim's discharge from the hospital.
