Two drivers were hospitalized following a severe head-on collision in Macomb Township last night, according to officials. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred around 5:36 p.m. on 23 Mile Road near Indian Pointe Drive, also identified as Heydenreich Road. As per The Detroit News, a westbound Ford Fusion crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming Buick SUV.
The collision critically injured the Ford Fusion's driver, a 19-year-old man from Auburn Hills, who is now in critical condition at a local hospital. The 62-year-old Oxford woman driving the Buick was reported to be in stable condition. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles, according to the ClickOnDetroit article and information released by the Sheriff's Office. The crash also involved a third vehicle, the driver of which did not require medical attention.
In addition to the drivers, a passenger from the Buick was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Officers leading the investigation have indicated they do not believe alcohol was a factor in this incident, as cited by a social media post by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.
