
A destructive blaze tore through a Sunset Hills home Thursday afternoon, leaving ten individuals homeless. Seaside Fire & Rescue, along with Seaside Police, were summoned to 385 Alpine St. shortly before 4:30 p.m. to battle the two-alarm fire that unleashed columns of black smoke visible from various points in the city, as reported by the City of Seaside's official website.
Firefighters quickly controlled a fire at a residence around 5:07 p.m., but the home was already severely damaged. No injuries were reported, but ten people were displaced. The Red Cross is helping them find new housing. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, according to the City of Seaside.
Seaside's emergency teams received help from several nearby partners. Fire departments from Cannon Beach, Gearhart, Lewis & Clark, Elsie-Vine Maple, Banks, Hamlet, Astoria, Warrenton, and Nehalem assisted, along with NW Natural and Seaside Public Works, as per the City of Seaside. The investigation into the origins of the fire is ongoing, and further details await as authorities work to piece together the trigger for this calamity.
