Walt Disney Elementary School in the Alvin Independent School District faces a substantial rebuilding effort after sustaining severe damage from an EF-2 tornado. According to a Click2Houston report, the tornadic event damaged the roof and significantly impacted the structure, prompting district officials to seek the community's aid in recovery efforts. The tragedy extended beyond structural damage, including a fatality in the area, with six confirmed tornadoes wreaking havoc across Texas.
Educators at the affected school have lost many years' worth of teaching materials. To help replace what was lost, they have set up a donation portal to rebuild classrooms and restore a positive learning environment.
The disaster, as reported by abc13, also took the life of 47-year-old Jamie Brown, who was thrown from a trailer and found by her spouse, Stafnie Brown, in the aftermath. "I think she's going to be there when I wake up, she's not," Stafnie Brown said.
Erika Ackerman, who wasn't home during the storm, returned to find everything they had built was gone. "We are all lost and numb. It's really hard to process. It's like I know it's real. I can see that is real, but it still doesn't feel real," Ackerman said in an interview obtained by abc13.
