As Texas deals with the aftermath of this weekend's severe weather, thousands along the coast, especially in the Bolivar Peninsula, remain without power. According to Click2Houston, around 4,000 customers were without electricity this morning, with Entergy working to restore service. The company confirmed that several poles and transformers were damaged by strong winds and fallen debris.
Crews are hopeful that power restoration will be completed by noon today, according to Entergy. Two resource centers have been set up in the Bolivar Peninsula to assist residents, offering device charging and a place to rest. The High Island Gymnasium and Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., respectively.
According to abc13, CenterPoint Energy has restored power to nearly 33,000 Houston-area customers, with fewer than 2,300 still without power. Brazoria County, Cypress, and Galveston were among the hardest-hit areas. Entergy Texas has restored power to over 43% of its customers, with High Island residents expecting restoration by the end of the day.
Efforts have increased with high-water crews and specialized equipment deployed in affected areas. Officials are urging caution around downed power lines and debris due to hidden electrical dangers. For updates, affected individuals can visit the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and BPVFD Facebook pages.
In addition to clearing roads, officials are working to ensure access to community resources. A relief center has also opened in Splendora at the East Montgomery County Community Development Center for those displaced or in need of assistance.
