Three individuals are facing charges of multiple counts of attempted murder following a series of shootings that took place in Aurora last July, endangering both civilians and a police officer. According to Denver7, the suspects were charged after incidents that included an Aurora police officer's vehicle being hit by gunfire.
The elements of this dangerous puzzle began to come together on the night of July 28th, near the intersection of South Havana Street and East Idaho Place. An officer with the Aurora Police Department reported his vehicle was struck by a bullet while he was driving down Havana Street. "I was just driving down Havana Street when I heard gunfire," the officer recounted, capturing the immediate danger that clouded that night. Within the same hour, a man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound, he had been out walking when the shots rang out, as detailed by The Denver Gazette.
As the investigation unfolded, the connection between these shootings expanded to include other incidents across metro Denver, which the authorities described as a "rolling gunfight." The trio now linked to these violent acts are Carlos Gimenez-Chacin, held on a $750,000 bond; Diego Lara, held on a $500,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for February 26, 2025; and Luis Maldonado-Moncada, whose bond is set at $250,000 and is due in court on January 30, 2025, for his preliminary hearing, as outlined by The Denver Post.
