Three juveniles are now in custody following a series of vehicle break-ins, and another suspect is still at large, according to the Durham County Sheriff's Office. The spree, which involved at least six incidents, took place around noon at businesses along US 70 in Durham County. Deputies were alerted and quickly gathered a description of the suspect vehicle, which was soon spotted by an officer on the 1000 block of Lawson St.
During an attempted traffic stop, the driver fled and after a brief chase, four individuals bailed from the car near Wabash St. and Dayton St., as reported by the Durham County Sheriff's Office. With the help of the Durham Police Department, a dragnet was established, eventually leading to the capture of three suspects aged 17, 14, and 13. The stolen property was recovered in the vehicle they were driving, which, too had been reported stolen from Raleigh.
The stolen SUV from the afternoon was later found in the Walltown neighborhood. The detained youths might be linked to several more break-ins and car thefts in the area. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their alleged crimes. The Durham County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with further insights to come forward and contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 919-560-0880.
