Three suspects are now in custody following an attempted robbery at Bob Richards Jewelry in Germantown, with law enforcement officials successfully apprehending the individuals involved. On Monday, Johnathan D. Spates, Jackie J. Spears, and Trayneisha N. Hurt—residents of Memphis—were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and felony vandalism, with Hurt facing an additional charge of false reporting, Action News 5 reports.
The incident unfolded on December 16 when a vehicle crashed into the doors of the jewelry store located at 1696 S. Germantown Road. It is reported that the suspects were armed, and shots were fired from within the business by store staff, although it resulted in no injuries, according to WREG. In the aftermath of the event, law enforcement officials managed to locate and seize both vehicles implicated in the attempted heist.
According to the Germantown Police Department, the investigation is still ongoing, and further details on the case are pending. "These individuals are charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and felony vandalism," remarked the police. Hurt's charge of false reporting adds another layer to the severity of her alleged involvement, as sourced from Action News 5.
The recent robbery attempt is not the first brush with the law for some accused. Records reveal that in 2021, Spates faced charges including possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance with intent following an incident at a bail bonds company, and in 2019, Spears was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and possession of marijuana after an Arkansas couple were shot, driving into Memphis to purchase a vehicle they found on Craigslist—details that have emerged from the reporting by FOX13 Memphis.
The Germantown Police Department has declined to comment further while investigations into the attempted robbery continue, thus ensuring the integrity of their ongoing inquiries and the judicial process that awaits, highlighting a commitment to due process for those accused. At the same time, they safeguard the community from potential harm.
