On Monday, the trial of Jacob Christopher Muse, charged with the murder of three family members at the Lock, Stock & Barrel Shooting Range in Grantville, began. Muse faces multiple charges, including malice murder, felony murder, and armed robbery; he is accused of shooting to death Tommy and Evelyn Hawk, both 75, and their 18-year-old grandson Luke after attempting to rob the gun range they owned on April 8, 2022, as reported by Fox 5 Atlanta.
The prosecution's case includes evidence placing Muse at the crime scene, with the theft of nearly four dozen firearms that were subsequently found at Muse's residence, which he lived nearby after the crime according to the investigators, while the defense has criticized law enforcement's focus on Muse as being premature and narrow, this amid ongoing testimonies throughout the week. A significant number of firearms stolen from the gun range during the incident were later recovered from Muse's College Park home, implying a connection with the robbery.
While the triple murder trial is underway, 11Alive reported a delay in the proceedings earlier this year when Muse's arraignment in Coweta County was pushed to April due to an overbooked court schedule. Despite the delay, public records did not reveal how Muse intended to plead at that time.
The Hawk family expressing the comfort they found in the local law enforcement’s endeavor to bring justice, quoted by 11Alive, stating, "We are encouraged and honored by the incredible efforts of our local law enforcement including the Grantville Police and Coweta County Sheriff's department, as well as the ATF and GBI. We understand from Chief Steve Whitlock that the current development with the murder suspect in custody, was certainly a team effort. We are continuing to pray for their teams during this stressful time, and we will continue to pray for the redemption of the perpetrator."
