Early Saturday morning, a puzzling act of violence unfolded on Memphis streets, as described by local law enforcement. The Memphis Police Department says two individuals were hospitalized after their vehicle was shot into by what later appeared to be a friend's car, according to a statement given by the victims. The incident occurred near Whitten Road and Hillshire Drive, where officers responded shortly before 4 a.m., as reported by WREG.
After arriving at Regional One Hospital by private vehicle, the victims explained to officers that while traveling northbound on Whitten Road, bullets were shot from a black four-door sedan that started following them, one of the victims recounted. The FOX13 Memphis report further detailed that one of the victims recognized the pursuing vehicle as belonging to her friend, leading to a phone call where the suspected shooter claimed the attack was retribution for allegedly setting her up to have her car broken into.
Police documented the damage to the victims' car, noting bullet holes in the front and back windshields, and the rear driver side quarter panel, according to Action News 5. Remarkably, despite the violence of the incident, neither victim was struck by gunfire, although one did suffer cuts from glass fragments.
Continuing, officers are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby areas as no shell casings were found on the scene. The investigation remains ongoing, while both victims are reported to be in non-critical conditions. The Memphis Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward and help shed light on this early morning altercation.
