A three-vehicle collision in Broadway-Manchester has left two people hospitalized, one in a critical state, after firefighters performed an auto-extrication operation on Friday afternoon. According to a Los Angeles Fire Department alert, the incident occurred at 9617 S San Pedro St and was reported at approximately 1:57 PM, under incident number 1038.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two patients in dire need of medical attention, with one victim entrapped amidst the wreckage. The Los Angeles Police Department, also responding to the incident, has designated it as LAPD Inc# 2454. The firefighters belonging to Station 64, along with Battalion 13, took charge of the rescue efforts, battling time and twisted metal to reach those caught in the aftermath of the crash. The teams involved included E264, E64, RA264, RA864, and T64.
A follow-up alert by the LAFD informed the public that at 2:11 PM one of the patients, an approximately 45-year-old male, was extricated and transported to a hospital in critical condition. A second patient, a roughly 40-year-old female, suffered from injuries deemed non-life threatening and was also transported for medical care. No further details regarding the circumstances of the collision or the identities of the patients were provided at the time.
Moreover, the LAFD credited the combined efforts of various units, including BC13, EM11, EM13, RA65, and RA865, that all contributed to the operation. The incident took place in Council District 8, and as the firefighters worked through the chaos, there was an expectation among emergency responders that traffic would be impacted in the area surrounding San Pedro Street as investigations continued.
