The U.S. Marshals have made a significant arrest in Memphis, Tennessee, capturing a suspect wanted for murder in Mississippi. Eighteen-year-old Tony Lott was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service's specialized task forces after evading authorities for a period following the alleged crime.
According to a press release from the U.S. Marshals Service, the apprehension was the result of a concerted effort between their offices in Mississippi and Tennessee, The joint operation was initiated after the shooting death of Jerrian King, in Greenville, Mississippi occurred on October 25. King was found shot in the 1300 block of N. St. Mary’s Circle, leading to authorities issuing, a murder warrant for Lott five days later.
The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Mississippi took the first steps in the fugitive investigation, later passing the baton to the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF) in Memphis once Lott was traced to the area. This cross-agency cooperation culminated on December 5 when Lott was located at an apartment complex at the 3000 block of E. Point Cove by the combined efforts of the TRVFTF and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team.
Lott was detained without any complications and is currently in custody at the Shelby County Detention Center, awaiting extradition to Mississippi. The U.S. Marshals Service highlighted the efficiency of the TRVFTF, which, made up of a broad coalition of law enforcement from Deputy U.S. Marshals to local police officers and Tennessee Department of Correction Special Agents, has been responsible for capturing around 3,000 violent offenders, and sexual predators since its inception in 2021.
