UNLV has promoted wide receivers coach Del Alexander to interim head coach after Barry Odom left for Purdue. The change comes before the team’s bowl game against Cal on December 18. Erick Harper, UNLV’s athletic director, said, "Del has a long history with successful football programs on a national level and we have full confidence that he is the right person to lead the Rebels into what promises to be an exciting big-time bowl game in Los Angeles against Cal," according to UNLV Rebels.

Del Alexander is back at UNLV after a brief time away in 2023. He has coached in 18 bowl games, including four Rose Bowls and two College Football Playoffs. Last season, he earned an award for coaching wide receivers, helping Ricky White III break a long-standing school record. Alexander has also worked at Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, San Diego, and Oregon State, helping develop players who went on to the NFL, including Chase Claypool and Miles Boykin. His experience makes him well-prepared for his role as interim head coach, as stated by UNLV Rebels and KTNV.

UNLV is counting on Del Alexander, who has a long history with the program, to lead the team in the upcoming LA Bowl. Alexander, known for his offensive expertise, will guide the Rebels after a strong season in which they led the nation in third-down conversions. As interim head coach, he’ll look to help the team perform well in the bowl game on December 18, as reported by UNLV Rebels.
