An evening meant for celebration spiraled into chaos as Webster Police Department officers were assaulted while responding to a large street fight that later continued indoors during a 2-year-old's birthday party. The first call came in around 8:15 pm on November 30, with officers quickly dispersing the initial commotion at 23 Everett Ave, according to a Facebook post from the department. However, the peace was brief as altercations broke out once more inside an apartment, this second disturbance prompting the attendance of officers Spencer Donovan, Francheska Cedeno, Nicholas Caruso, David Brooks, Alex Johnson, and Bryan Blomgren.
It was at this juncture that Jordan Campos, an attendee of the party, barged into the apartment, aiming to revive the fight leading to a struggle when officers intervened; Campos resisted arrest vehemently, striking an officer and employing his pocket for unknown reasons forcing the police to deploy defensive tactics and a Taser. As this altercation intensified, more individuals converged, obstructing the process and attacking officers, leading to a perilous scenario where mutual-aid was sought, and no immediate response came from the embattled officers on the scene.
In the aftermath, Jordan Campos, aged 27 of Worcester, MA, was detained on multiple charges comprising three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct (subsequent offense), disturbing the peace, along with an attempt to disarm an officer. Additionally, Marylin Lopez and Franklin Baez, also from Worcester, faced similar accusations related to assaulting law enforcement and resisting arrest as noted by Webster Police. The apprehension of Campos further resulted in him kicking Dudley Police Officer Dylan Reney in the face and spitting on Officer Johnson.
The situation necessitated a widespread emergency response with a regional broadcast calling in aid from multiple neighboring departments inclusive of Douglas, Auburn, Oxford, Dudley, Southbridge, Sutton, Leicester, Worcester, and the Massachusetts State Police. The collaborative efforts restored order as several other individuals alongside Campos were slapped with charges the assistance from the various departments receiving gratitude from Webster Police in their report all suspects mentioned are currently deemed innocent until proven guilty, as is customary in the due process of law.
