A tragic incident occurred on December 13, 2024, when a female pedestrian lost her life in a traffic collision at the intersection of East Greenleaf Boulevard and Long Beach Boulevard. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Compton Fire Department responded to the scene around 4:03 p.m., where they found the pedestrian and provided aid. Unfortunately, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2009 Chevy HHR, while attempting to make a left turn, collided with the pedestrian who had fallen in the intersection's marked crosswalk. The driver of the Chevy remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the authorities. As reported by the Long Beach Police Department, factors like speed, distracted driving, or impairment were not contributing factors in this unfortunate accident.
The victim has been identified by authorities as Elvira Cuellar, a 75-year-old Compton resident. While the investigation is ongoing, detectives from the Collision Investigation Detail are keen on speaking to individuals who might have witnessed the collision. Detective Efrain Pineda is leading the inquiry.
