An incident on Friday afternoon has left one woman dead and six others injured following a multi-vehicle collision in Harrah. The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office confirmed the crash occurred near Northeast 63rd Street and Harrah Road, with emergency services called to the scene just after 4 p.m. In a development mirroring fears long-held by local residents, this tragic event has thrown a grim spotlight on the safety of this particular intersection.
According to KOCO 5, a neighbor expressed his concern about the danger the intersection posed prior to the accident, its notoriety as a trouble spot in the community being well-documented. Aaron Brilbeck with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office described the aftermath, with "three of them taken by personal vehicle. Three others were taken by ambulance."
The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been released, and the extent of injuries sustained by the other victims remains unknown. The Sheriff's Office is actively investigating to pinpoint the exact cause of the collision. Sadly, this area's traffic issues are not unfamiliar; local authorities have acknowledged concerns relating to speeding, though it is still too speculative to confirm its involvement in this incident.
While the Sheriff's Office continues to work to determine why this accident occurred, Aaron Brilbeck revealed to News 9 that the intersection is controlled by a four-way stop, but it is prone to speeding incidents. "We can't say for sure whether that played a role," Brilbeck said, highlighting the preliminary nature of the investigation and the caution needed to avoid jumping to conclusions.
The six individuals who were injured in the crash are being treated at local hospitals with their injuries not being life-threatening, as KFOR reported. Their condition and the full impact of this incident remain under the scrutiny of health care professionals and investigators alike.
