Worcester Police Department officers apprehended a man on several firearm-related charges after a traffic incident last Thursday night. According to the official press release, an officer's vehicle was nearly hit by the suspect's car before the latter swerved and stopped at a gas station on Goldsberry Street.

While interacting with the driver, identified as 36-year-old Kevin Blair, the officer noticed an open container of alcohol. Blair was observed reaching between and under his seat, despite commands to stop. Upon the arrival of backup, a handgun with a defaced serial number was found beneath the driver’s seat. Blair, who did not have a license to carry a firearm in Massachusetts, was arrested and charged with multiple firearms offenses.

The concealed weapon, along with the discovery of the ammunition, placed Blair at odds with state law. The charges against him are serious; Possession of a large capacity firearm without a License, Possession of a Firearm Without an FID Card, Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card and Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle are added to this apparent near-miss on the road.

The Worcester Police Department's Crime Scene Unit was called to properly secure the gun. Critical evidence was possibly tampered with, as the firearm's serial number had been defaced—an infraction that adds to Blair's legal woes. Details of his arraignment are pending, and it is not yet clear if Blair has obtained legal representation.
