
An accident in northeast Las Vegas has resulted in a pedestrian fatality and the arrest of a 19-year-old driver on Monday night. News3LV reports that the incident occurred at around 7:52 p.m. at the intersection of N. Lamb Boulevard and Elm Avenue, where a 2007 GMC Sierra pickup, operated by the young driver, collided with a raised center median before striking a 32-year-old man in a crosswalk. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to UMC Trauma.
According to an investigation conducted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, speeding appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. After hitting the raised center median, the truck crossed paths with the pedestrian, who was lawfully traversing the marked crosswalk. FOX5 Vegas details that while impairment has been ruled out, reckless driving charges have been pressed against the 19-year-old identified as Ibis Acedo, who remained at the scene following the accident.
Responders arrived at the scene of the crash and provided emergency care, but the outcome was fatal. The LVMPD has recorded this as the 158th traffic-related fatality within their jurisdiction in 2024, a statistic that highlights ongoing concerns regarding vehicular safety.
The incident has led to ongoing investigations by authorities as they seek to understand the full circumstances surrounding the events on North Lamb Boulevard.
