On the first day of the new year, a shooting incident on N. Glebe Road in Arlington led to an arrest, as reported by the Arlington County Police Department. Malachi Rawlings, a 21-year-old from Washington, DC, now faces charges including Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, in addition to being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, according to details provided by Arlington County Virginia reports.
Police responded to the scene at around 1:11 a.m. after receiving a report of an assault with a weapon, upon arrival they discovered that what started as a verbal dispute escalated rapidly — with Rawlings brandishing and discharging his firearm in the common area of the building, which led to the injury of an individual, and subsequently one member of the involved group returned fire, injuring Rawlings.
The name of the victim who sustained non-life-threatening injuries has not been released; nevertheless, he managed to self-transport to a nearby hospital. Rawlings, after also receiving a gunshot wound deemed non-life-threatening, was found by authorities at the intersection of N. Glebe Road and 11th Street N, provided medical care, and then taken into custody following his release from the hospital.
