An 88-year-old woman was critically injured in an apartment fire in Washington Heights. The fire, which broke out just after midnight, saw the woman rescued from her fifth-floor residence on Bennett Avenue, as reported by ABC7NY.
The victim was subsequently transported to New York Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia, located nearby. As she battled for her life, wrapped up in the urgency of the firefighters' response, the cause of the conflagration remained unknown, under the scrutiny of investigators.
In a similar account, PIX1 1 confirmed the sole victim was taken to Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The NYPD noted that the fire did not extend beyond her apartment, an early morning calamity confined to the place where the unnamed woman almost certainly considered her refuge.
