At a regular meeting of the Acworth City Council last Thursday, a moment marked another milestone in the career of a veteran officer. Chief Cheatham oversaw the official swearing-in ceremony for Captain Michael Taylor, promoting him to the rank of Major within the Acworth Police Department, as reported by the city's official website. The ceremony recognized Taylor's nearly 24 years of service to the department and the wider community.
Major Taylor's journey to this point is rooted deeply in service and loyalty to his country, starting with his honorable tenure in the United States Marine Corps where he served in both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Following his stint in the military, Taylor forged a path in law enforcement, initially with the Rome Police Department in 1998. Serving the Acworth community since 2001, Major Taylor has been a steadfast presence in the police department, which is highlighted by the city's announcement.
The transition from Captain to Major is more than just a change in title—it's an expansion of responsibility and a commitment that Major Taylor does not take lightly. In an expression of humility and gratitude, Major Taylor cited the unwavering support of his family and colleagues as foundational to his success. He expressed on the city's website, "gratitude to his family and colleagues for their support."
