To keep the energy flowing and the lights on, Apache Junction has joined forces with Salt River Project (SRP) in a strategic move to trim potential hazards from the urban landscape. The "Right Tree, Right Place" program focuses on uprooting trees flirting too closely with power lines, posing risks to critical municipal infrastructure.

Starting on Monday, work crews from SRP will swarm areas along East Superstition Boulevard and North Idaho Road, notably around the civic heart of the city – the City Hall Complex. Their mission is to diligently excise over 30 trees from publicly owned spaces marked for removal. However, it's not just about taking away; for every botanical giant felled, the SRP promises to plant thrice as many 24” box trees, this generous three-to-one replacement scheme seeks to not only maintain but expand Apache Junction's verdant canopy. According to the City of Apache announcement, the trees that are drawing too near to the power lines will be substituted with species that are less inclined to tower.

But the reach of this greening endeavor stretches further. The additional 60 saplings are destined for locales across the city, with plots earmarked at various parks, and municipal landmarks including the Apache Junction Library, the Multi-Generational Center, and the Apache Junction Police Department set to benefit from the leafy influx.

This project reflects the city's focus on sustainability and public safety, combining urban planning with environmental care. The new trees will also provide shade and fresh air, offering a peaceful escape in the urban landscape.
