In a move to shine a light on the pervasive issue of human trafficking, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has orchestrated a campaign that casts a blue glow across the Arizona State Capitol Executive Tower. This act symbolizes the state's dedication to Human Trafficking Prevention Month, marking Arizona's effort to educate the public and bolster resources for combating this crime.

"Arizona is steadfastly committed to combating trafficking through partnerships with agencies and sectors across the state," Governor Hobbs stated, acknowledging the collaborative efforts that have been central to the state's strategy. In January, an array of activities and training are slated to ripple through communities, as reported by an official statement from the Governor’s Office. The average age at which individuals, just 15.7 years old, fall prey to sex trafficking in Arizona underscores the urgent need to amplify awareness, especially among the youth.

The Governor's Council to Combat Human Trafficking, since its inception in 2014, claims to have trained over 65,000 professionals and citizens. The council's reach extends deep into various sectors, including social services, healthcare, government agencies, and education, illustrating an all-hands-on-deck approach to eradicate this form of modern-day slavery. "Together, we can end trafficking," Governor Hobbs told the press.

The recently enacted legislature in Arizona continues to fortify the state's commitment. Governor Hobbs signed House Bill 2897, reestablishing the Anti-Human Tracking Grant Fund Program and directing substantial funding for law enforcement and support services, including a pioneering statewide human trafficking tip line. "Thank you to Governor Hobbs for proclaiming January 2025 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month," said Tonya Hamilton, GOYFF Director, as stated by the Governor's Office.
