The Memphis River Parks Partnership (MRPP) has announced Art Davis as their acting CEO following Carol Coletta's departure earlier this week. As reported by WREG, Davis, who already serves as COO of the nonprofit, brings extensive operational and financial management experience to the table. He will continue to fulfill his COO duties as he steps into the interim CEO role.
Davis has significantly contributed to the organization's financial strength in recent years, securing millions in federal and state grants. Notably, under his operational leadership, the MRPP has managed to see through $85.6 million in construction projects. A national search for a permanent CEO is still ongoing. As per Local Memphis, Shanea McKinney, board chair, expressed full support for Davis and appreciation for his willingness "to take on these additional responsibilities as the search continues for the right CEO."
Having led the organization since 2017, Coletta oversaw numerous large-scale endeavors, including the $61 million overhaul of Tom Lee Park. Her tenure was marked by ambitious projects and significant organizational influence and scope growth. She maintained that "the next seven years of work will be just as tough as the last seven," according to WREG.
The MRPP plays a vital role in the stewardship of the Memphis Riverfront, managing six miles of riverfront and 26 properties along the Mississippi River. Since 2017, they've spearheaded four major projects and raised over $80 million for capital projects through public and private partnerships. "The board fully supports Art in this interim role, and we remain committed to a thoughtful process to identify the next visionary leader for Memphis River Parks Partnership," McKinney told Commercial Appeal. The board, led by vice chair Tammy LoCascio, with help from Memphis firm Adams Keegan, will continue to run to find Coletta’s successor.
