The beginning of the year brought more than just festive celebrations to the people of Atlanta, as one of their own, a cancer survivor, took a proud spot in the 136th Rose Parade. Julianna Ferrone, who had been through the trenches in her fight against Stage 3 cervical cancer, was featured on a float representing hope and the resilience of the human spirit. Diagnosed in July 2020, Ferrone underwent a series of intensive treatments which included a hysterectomy and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.

Despite the complexities, with a spirit that refused to surrender, she witnessed a reemergence of her cancer in 2022. Alongside waking to the unexpected challenge of being unable to walk, Ferrone had to contend with the harsh truth that recurrence often complicates treatment, making the journey equally demanding, if not more. Yet, this Atlanta woman found solace and strength under the care of City of Hope Cancer Center Atlanta, where nearly a year on chemotherapy alongside a drug combination led her to beat the disease once again, according to the same FOX 5 Atlanta report.

Her position in the parade wasn’t just a celebration of her victory but a statement of advocacy for early prevention and self-advocacy. “I am so dedicated to this message about screening and early prevention … You need to advocate for yourself. Keep going until you find someone who will help you,” Ferrone told FOX 5 Atlanta. Her remarkable recovery led her to claim her health back, returning to a life that cancer sought to take away.

On this year's City of Hope float, charmingly titled “A Beautiful Day for Hope,” Ferrone shared the platform with her doctor, Dr. Natalie Godbee, D.O. As they rode through the street, they embodied the message of hope and the importance of compassionate care, the centerpiece of City of Hope’s 51st Rose Parade float inclusion, as shared by WSB-TV
