Love is in the air, and so is the spirit of environmental consciousness this Valentine's Day. The city of Aurora invites residents and commuters to participate in the annual Winter Bike to Work Day on February 14. Pledging to ditch the car for a bike can significantly reduce air pollution and promote a healthier lifestyle.

The event, hosted by Way to Go, a part of the Denver Regional Council of Governments, encourages people to cycle for various activities, including work commitments, errands, or meeting friends. According to the City of Aurora, individuals looking to join in can register to potentially win prizes and should visit BikeToWorkDay.co to make their pledge.

Riders can start their day with a warm gesture by stopping at a breakfast station from 6:45 to 9 a.m. along the Highline Canal underpass located just west of Chambers Road. Participants, dressed warmly in gloves and layered clothing, will get complimentary coffee and breakfast burritos sponsored by Bicycle Aurora. This station stands northeast of the Aurora Municipal Center, where cyclists can also gather more information about Aurora's multimodal transportation master plan effort, aptly named Connecting Aurora.

For those unprepared for the chilly ride, a bicycle maintenance station ready for quick repairs is available on the west side of the Aurora Municipal Center. Bike racks are handily available on both sides of the building for cyclists to secure their rides. Participants are reminded to keep themselves upright to avoid mishaps on snowy and icy roads, and that slowing down is key.
