Baltimore residents can expect a dusting of snow overnight as a low-pressure system tracks south of the city. High pressure is set to stabilize the area today before sliding east and making way for the light snowfall forecast from Friday night into Saturday. "An area of low pressure will track to our south Friday night into Saturday bringing light snow to the area," the National Weather Service states.

In preparation for the incoming weather, Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for certain southern counties, anticipating around 2 inches of snow accumulation. The advisory extends from this evening into Saturday morning. As for the Alleghenies, the NWS predicts 2-4 inches of snow and up to 6 inches on the higher ridges. Advisory-level snow is likely for the Alleghenies, where a Winter Weather Advisory remains for this evening through Saturday evening, according to the weather service.

Baltimore expects high temperatures in the low 30s and, in the higher elevations, the upper 20s today. The light snow accumulation that arrives overnight might necessitate cautious travel, considering the potential for 1-1.5 inches of snow across most parts of the area. The Shenandoah Valley should see the least snowfall due to its location near the Alleghenies.

Following the snow, the NWS indicates that high pressure will lead to clearer skies and a mild temperature rise for Sunday and early next week. However, the reprieve will be temporary, as "upslope snow showers" and gusty winds will continue post-system, potentially resulting in single-digit wind chills in the mountains. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for most of the area from Tuesday through the end of the week, with overnight lows dropping to the teens and potentially single digits by mid-week.

The forecast also mentions potential aviation and marine impacts. The National Weather Service advises, "VFR conditions are expected through most of today," with a shift to gusty northwest winds by Saturday afternoon that could affect flights. Mariners should take heed as a Small Craft Advisory is in effect through this morning, and similar conditions are expected again on Saturday. Moreover, concerns about freezing spray are on the table due to current water temperatures and winds, the NWS cautioned.

Low water levels around -2FT MLLW are predicted on the coastal front for this morning's low tide. A slow ascent will follow this as winds lighten and turn southerly, reducing concerns throughout the rest of the weekend. While water levels are still expected to remain lower than normal, there will be no low-water concerns after this morning's low tide.
