The Berkeley Police Department has made a second arrest in the investigation of a shooting that took place last December on Adeline Street. The latest suspect, a 25-year-old from Lathrop, was taken into custody with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service. A firearm was also seized during the operation as the department continues its efforts to crack down on gun violence in the area.
This recent arrest comes from a previous operation on January 16, when a 49-year-old Emeryville resident was apprehended. Multiple firearms and narcotics packaged for sale, as well as a large sum of cash, were recovered during a search warrant execution. The District Attorney's Office has since filed criminal charges against the first suspect, implicating them in the Adeline Street shooting incident.
Investigators leveraged surveillance footage and other physical evidence to identify both individuals as the alleged perpetrators of the crime. The Berkeley Police Department credited the successful apprehension of the suspects to the "skillful coordination with our law enforcement partners". It underlined the unwavering resolve of their detectives to resolve these cases. Detective Lieutenant Rittenhouse admitted, "Yesterday's successful operation is a result of skillful coordination with our law enforcement partners and demonstrates our Detectives' resolve to bring these cases to closure."
