Community members in the Bloomington area quickly sprang into action this past Saturday to halt the spread of a potentially disastrous fire. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, on January 25 at approximately 4:13 P.M., local deputies were dispatched to the 10800 block of Cedar Avenue in response to a fire that was reportedly set intentionally in an open field close to several businesses. These quick-thinking Good Samaritans managed to extinguish the flames before the San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived on the scene, preventing further destruction.

The suspect in the incident was identified as Melyi Lopez, a 40-year-old unhoused person known to frequent the Bloomington area. Deputies, already familiar with Lopez from previous encounters, located and arrested her; she was charged with arson. Notably, her bail has been set at $30,000.00 and she's now booked in the West Valley Detention Center.

Deputy A. Valdez of the Fontana Station was referred to handle the case, bearing the number 032500253. The department has called on the community for any additional information regarding the event, urging people to reach out to the Fontana Sheriff’s Station.
