A routine basement cleanout took an unexpected turn in Calhoun County when a homeowner uncovered 7 to 10 sticks of dynamite, leading to a bomb squad intervention this past Sunday. According to a FOX17 report, the homeowner, residing on Gorsline Road, discovered explosives they believed were left by a relative who formerly lived in the home.
The discovery, made around 3:45 p.m., prompted a swift response from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and subsequent assistance from the Battle Creek Police Department bomb squad. The professionals confirmed the presence of dynamite and, using special equipment, carefully extracted and neutralized the hazardous materials in a controlled environment, as stated on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
Authorities have carried out the necessary procedures to ensure the safety of residents in the area, with a final cleanup being conducted yesterday. Details from the Sheriff's Office highlight the collaborative effort involving the Pennfield Township Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, and Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch in addressing the situation.
