
Yesterday has left a man hospitalized after he attempted to save his dog from a machete-wielding assailant. According to abc7 New York, the incident occurred just after 11:30 a.m. in the West Farms area when the 34-year-old dog owner's pet barked at a stranger, prompting an aggressive response.
The confrontation escalated when the man took out a machete to hit the dog, leading the pet owner to intervene. The attacker fled the scene and remains at large.
Further details provided by News 12 The Bronx clarify that the dispute was initially sparked by the suspect's complaints about dogs barking outside a bodega located at 2001 Southern Blvd. After attempting to attack the dogs with a machete, the victim protectively stepped in front of his pet, resulting in the loss of four fingers.
Emergency services responded to the scene, and the victim was swiftly taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where they report he is in stable condition. The first responders were able to recover three of the four severed fingers. The search for the suspect is ongoing, and police urge anyone with information to come forward.
