A Brooklyn man, tangled in a web of vengeance and tragic misidentification, has been handed a seven-year sentence after a botched retaliation attack that left an innocent bystander wounded. The Bronx District Attorney's Office disclosed that Wilfredo Solano, 28, pleaded guilty to first-degree Attempted Assault in connection with the June 2023 shooting, as reported on their official statement. Bronx Supreme Court Justice Timothy Lewis presided over the sentencing, adding five years post-release supervision to Solano's docket.
According to the District Attorney Darcel D. Clark, Solano aimed to avenge his friend's murder by firing at a group he mistakenly thought responsible. "The senselessness of this retaliatory shooting cannot be overstated," Clark asserted in a statement obtained by the Bronx District Attorney's office. Solano, alongside Shameek Parker, 23, and other unidentified individuals, unleashed at least 10 shots, hitting a 19-year-old man in the knee – an unfortunate soul with zero ties to the murder of Solano's friend the night before at the same location.
The shooting, which unfolded near 1311 College Avenue in Claremont, was caught on video, capturing the hasty escape of Solano and his accomplices. Shameek Parker has already pleaded guilty to first-degree Attempted Assault on January 16, signaling a partial closure to the case. The Bronx District Attorney thanked NYPD Detective Daniel Nunez of the 44th Precinct for his efforts, recognizing the work of multiple bureaus and Deputy Bureau Chief Edward Christian Uy, who also worked on the prosecution.
While Solano and Parker face their sentences, two other defendants still await trial for the murder of Antoine Strong, 21, Solano's friend whose death initially sparked the misguided vendetta. Solano's conviction and sentencing are bound to further ignite conversations around the cycles of violence that continue to plague communities, with retaliation only perpetuating the sequence of loss. The complete details on the case have been provided by the Bronx District Attorney's office, available for public viewing to those looking to understand the full scope of this tragic misfire.
