Breaking news in Brooklyn speaks to a troubling trend of violence against postal workers, with a recent armed robbery adding to the string of concerning incidents. This afternoon, a 30-year-old USPS mail carrier was accosted at gunpoint by two masked individuals in Bedford-Stuyvesant, according to details provided by NY Daily News. The assailants dressed in black, stole several packages before fleeing the scene westbound on Greene Avenue.
The armed robbery occurred near Greene Ave. and Malcolm X Blvd., around 2:15 p.m., leaving the community shaken. The suspects, believed to be teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19, have yet to be apprehended. This incident closely follows another tragic event, where a postal worker was fatally stabbed over an alleged dispute about a deli line position, according to 1010 WINS.
Ray Hodges, a 36-year-old U.S. postal worker from the Bronx, was killed in the previous altercation that occurred at a Harlem deli. Eyewitness reports claim that Hodges and the alleged assailant, 24-year-old Jaia Cruz, argued over who was next in line—a dispute which tragically culminated in Hodges being stabbed multiple times, as reported by NY Daily News.
