In a significant drug seizure at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers uncovered a large amount of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $7,770,000. The narcotics were ingeniously concealed within a commercial shipment of what was supposed to be Persian limes.

The routine facade of commerce was pulled back on January 6 when a tractor-trailer from Mexico was subjected to inspection by CBP officers. Employing non-intrusive inspection equipment (NII), the officers stumbled upon an impressive stash – 869.72 pounds to be exact, of what was alleged methamphetamine. The illegal contraband was neatly packaged in 357 discreet packages, all artfully tucked away inside the trailer, a shipment manifest stealthily indicating its innocuous cargo as Persian limes.

Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, underscored the vigilance of his team. In a statement obtained by the CBP, he remarked, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection” It was a testament to the persistent scrutiny that the officers at the border maintain, a scrutiny that often leads to busts of such magnitude.

Following the discovery, CBP OFO seized both the narcotics and the vehicle. The case then found its trajectory veering into the hands of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents, who initiated a thorough criminal investigation.
