Authorities were particularly concerned because the temperatures in the area were expected to plummet well below freezing as the night progressed and considering Joshua's condition, Chapel Hill police initiated a swift response to ensure his safety the police department actively communicated updates regarding the search and Joshua's description through social channels and local news outlets. In an effort coordinated by the Chapel Hill Police Department, a span of roughly four hours commenced from the initial report of Joshua's disappearance to the moment he was found as per the urgent notification by WRAL.
The community's collective concern dissolved when it was announced that Joshua Chung was discovered in the area of South Elliott Road, about two miles from where he was last seen. The news, which came as a great relief to his family and local residents, was disseminated quickly to ensure that Joshua was indeed found, and unharmed. ABC11 relayed the statement from law enforcement, which confirmed that the comprehensive effort to locate Joshua proved successful, culminating in a positive outcome without any noted injury or harm to the young boy.
