Charlotte is building its first all-electric firehouse, Firehouse 30, located at 3019 Beam Road. The new firehouse is part of the city’s efforts to improve sustainability and will enhance emergency service response in the Beam Road and airport area. The project, costing $16.39 million, is part of the broader Charlotte Fire Department Facilities Master Plan, according to the City of Charlotte website.
The new firehouse replaces an older building on Belle-Oaks Drive, near Charlotte Douglas International Airport, which had been in place since 1955. The old structure could not meet the growing demands of the area.
Details about the construction and features of the firehouse have not been fully revealed, but sustainability is a key focus.
