The fog that had Charlotte in its grip this morning is forecast to lift as the city inches towards a chilly high of 40 degrees, greeted by a gradual clearing. Visibility stood at a mere 0.75 miles early this morning, and with humidity levels at a high 88%, it was the kind of damp that can seep into your bones, though those conditions are expected to improve as the day progresses, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight, however, is set to be clear with lows dipping around 21 degrees, while Sunday and its night counterpart promise sunny skies and lows hovering around 24. The new week will commence with partly sunny skies, and by Friday, temperatures are anticipated to climb to a more comfortable high nearing 49 degrees.

But right now, caution on the roads remains crucial; a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg warned of slick roads and black ice across the area. "Temperatures remain below freezing across much of the area this morning. Slick roads and areas of black ice will continue into the morning before warming takes place helping melting to begin," the statement explained, cautioning that even as temperatures rise, bridges and sheltered locations could still prove hazardous with lingering slick spots or black ice.
