A fatal motor vehicle crash in Charlotte's Hickory Grove Division has resulted in one death and multiple serious injuries. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reports that the collision occurred last Saturday night, and involved four vehicles.
According to authorities, a Chevrolet S10 operated by 68-year-old Felix Davila was driving on the wrong side of the road on E. WT Harris Blvd when it struck head-on with a Honda and a Dodge Ram pickup truck. Subsequently, a Kia collided with the trailer hitch of the Ram. Yaneth Del Carmen Guevara, the 40-year-old driver of the Honda, suffered fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The other involved parties sustained serious injuries and were also transported to hospitals for treatment.
The CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, alongside the DWI Task Force and Motor Unit, are actively investigating the scene. Crime Scene Search members collected physical evidence, while the Charlotte Fire Department provided additional support. Detectives have obtained warrants for Felony Death by Vehicle and four counts of Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle against Mr. Davila, to be served following his release from the hospital. The CMPD has indicated that excessive speed and impairment by Davila are suspected factors in the crash.
In a statement, the CMPD informed the public that the investigation is ongoing, and further information will be shared as it becomes available. The department has made a call out to anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact Detective Kupfer at 704-432-2169, Ext. 1 or anonymously reach out to Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600 or through their website. Ms. Guevara's family has been notified of the tragic loss.
