
The in New Orleans has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for parts of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi, effective until 9 AM CST this morning. Residents are warned of very cold wind chills reaching as low as 16 degrees, which could pose a risk of hypothermia without proper attire. The advisory will be reinstated from midnight tonight until 9 AM CST Tuesday, with anticipated wind chills as low as 17 degrees, as reported by the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service, the region is experiencing a breezy day with northwest winds at 15 to 20 mph, gusting as high as 30 mph. In addition to the advisory, locals should be prepared for a steady temperature around 40 degrees today. Moving into tonight, partly cloudy skies and north wind chill factors will bring the temperature to a low around 32.
Further into the week, the weather is expected to hold mostly sunny with highs nearing 47 degrees by Tuesday and hovering around 48 degrees midweek. Nightly temperatures will drop to the low to mid-30s, with areas of frost expected late Wednesday into early Thursday. The forecast ahead also shows a 30 percent chance of showers by Thursday afternoon, increasing to 70 percent likelihood of precipitation by Thursday night, as stated by the National Weather Service.
As a precaution, the National Weather Service advises wearing appropriate clothing, including a hat and gloves, when venturing outside. Pets should also be kept indoors as much as possible during these conditions.
