The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is actively looking into the death of a woman whose body was discovered in Fentress County over the weekend. A TBI spokesperson confirmed that the body was found in the area of Banner Springs Road in Jamestown, as WVLT News reported. The identity of the woman has not been made public yet, and details surrounding the incident remain scant.
According to a statement obtained by WBIR, the investigation remains, "active and ongoing," said Leslie Earhart, TBI spokeswoman. It has been revealed by a GoFundMe page that the deceased was a mother of two, and had gone missing late Friday. Her vehicle was found in Cumberland County early Saturday, though it is still unclear how her body ended up in Fentress County, with the GoFundMe stating she was found in a vehicle.
The situation took a grim turn when an investigation in Fentress County led to the arrest of Nathan Wilson of Crossville, the husband of the victim. Court documents indicate that Wilson disclosed to investigators he had killed his wife, Amber Wilson, and placed her body in the back of their car. "He reportedly told agents he did not mean to kill her," revealed court documents cited by WATE. The charge currently faced by Nathan Wilson is abuse of a corpse.
The ongoing TBI investigation further disclosed that Wilson had also called the mother of the victim, apologizing for his actions. "The mother of the suspect told investigators that Wilson called her on the phone and told her he was sorry," according to the statement obtained by WATE. No other charges have been filed in connection to the case as of yet. Local law enforcement, including the Fentress County Sheriff's Office and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, have deferred all inquiries to the TBI.
The case has drawn the attention of Eighth Judicial District Attorney General Jared Effler, who has requested the TBI's involvement. The development of this case hinges on the findings of the state investigators, as a community mourns the loss and awaits answers. Attempts to reach both the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office by WVLT News for further comment have so far not been met with a response.
