Art enthusiasts and culture vultures, mark your calendars. The Oak Cliff Cultural Center (OC3) is launching "ORACLE", a solo exhibit by Danielle Ellis, an artist with deep roots in the area who's blending art, history, and spirituality in a distinctively digital way. Swing by from 6 to 8 p.m. today to catch the opening reception. It's a free event, folks, so no excuses. Even better, Ellis will be there for an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. to give you some intel on her work.
For those of you who've been tracking the Dallas art scene, "ORACLE" is Ellis's labor of love since 2020. Featuring her Brassfly Oracle Deck, this suite of digital collage prints is a tip of the hat—a deep dive into African diasporic history and spirituality. And here's the kicker: she's pairing historical imagery from African traditions with snapshots of African American life today to paint a picture of enduring African cosmology, as detailed in the City of Dallas.
Danielle Ellis is practically local royalty, with her creative chops honed right here in Oak Cliff. She's a product of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, shaped further by the South Dallas Cultural Center and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Ellis spreads her creative and benevolent wings through memberships in collectives like We Here and Radical Love, and through initiatives like ArtLoveMagic and Mermaids Bring Water, because clean water isn't just art—it's life. Her portfolio boasts features in places like the Dallas Museum of Art and the Latino Cultural Center—cred that speaks for itself.
