DPS's focus on educational equity isn't just a talking point, it is cemented as one of their Shared Core Values, meant to inform all of the district's endeavors, this alignment is intended to forge a path where every student, irrespective of their background has access to the support they need to succeed, Dr. Marrero shared the district's dedication to building a robust culture of equity among students, faculty, and community members alike.
As part of the commitment to these values, DPS encourages participation in the Denver Marade, a march and parade combination, celebrating the fight for freedom and solidarity which embodies Dr. King’s spirit of unity and progress. The opening ceremony of the 2025 Denver Marade was scheduled to commence at 9:30 a.m. in City Park, with the march starting at 10:45 a.m., events that are hosted by the Denver Martin Luther King, Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission, as outlined in Dr. Marrero's address to the community.
Reiterating the urgency of educational equity Dr. Marrero stated "when equity and education go hand in hand, students have greater access to quality education," as obtained by Denver Public Schools, enabling them to gain not only knowledge but also build critical thinking skills and sound character, all of which unlock the potential for transformative opportunities and outcomes, thus, making it clear that fostering such an environment is a priority that aligns closely with the broader mission of shaping a society where every individual has the opportunity to realize their dreams.
