A traffic stop in Detroit escalated quickly when an officer was dragged by a suspect's vehicle, leading to a discharged weapon and an ongoing manhunt. The incident last night began when officers stopped a silver Chevrolet Impala on the 11200 block of Duprey Street, near Casino Avenue, at approximately 8:10 p.m., FOX 2 Detroit reported.
According to police statements, the officers on the scene recognized the driver as a known drug offender. After requesting that he exit the vehicle, the driver refused, so he rolled up his window and drove off. This action resulted in one officer, who was positioned on the passenger side of the car, being dragged before firing a single shot at the suspect in self-defense, ClickOnDetroit reported.
Detroit Police Department currently has not located the suspect or the vehicle involved. The suspect has been described as a known narcotics offender who was operating a silver Impala. Importantly, it appears the gunshot did not hit the suspect, and details regarding their identity have not been released. The officer involved sustained injuries from the ordeal and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution, as detailed by WXYZ.
