Alexander Justin White, 29, of Durham, also known online as Sulaiman Al-Amriki, has been charged with attempting to join and support ISIS, according to recently unsealed federal court documents. The documents, cited by CBS17, allege that White planned to travel to Africa to meet with the terrorist organization.
Throughout 2024, White posted content supporting ISIS on his Facebook account. The criminal complaint details that in communications with an undercover FBI agent, White expressed his desire to join the group. According to abc11, he stated, "the strength is more in Africa," and made a video explaining why he wanted to join ISIS. Authorities believe he bought a round-trip ticket to disguise his true intentions, a common tactic used by extremists.
Law enforcement was alerted to White’s plans when he attempted to board a flight from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Paris, France, on December 4, 2024, en route to Rabat, Morocco. White was arrested after passing through the gate. WRAL reported that White had also discussed obtaining firearms and training for ISIS activities.
White faces serious charges, including providing, attempting, and conspiring to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. In his conversations with the FBI undercover agent, White said, "If it was a family member I would still fight back with them...There is no US troops love for homeland or any of this thing," in a statement obtained by WRAL.
