An unfortunate incident unfolded on East Karen Avenue as an SUV collided with an e-scooter, leaving the rider in a critical condition. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that last Friday, around 2:37 p.m., a Toyota 4Runner, driven by Kelly Mitchell of Las Vegas, was executing a left turn when it struck Jose Daniel Carrion Lampin, who was riding his Kukirin G4 Electric Scooter. The accident took place at the intersection with Joe W. Brown Drive, under a flashing yellow turn arrow sign.
At the scene, investigators gathered evidence and recorded witness testimonies. It was determined that the Toyota began its left turn while Carrion Lampin was entering the intersection. The ensuing collision resulted in the pedestrian hitting the right side of an SUV and being thrown onto the road. Police disclosed that the driver of the SUV was not under the influence at the time and cooperated with emergency responders.
Paramedics responded promptly and transported Carrion Lampin to Sunrise Hospital, where his injuries were described as life-threatening. As per a statement obtained by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash is still being actively investigated by their Collision Investigation Section, looking to reconstruct the events and determine culpability.
Mitchell, 52, has not been charged as the investigation continues. The report listed no impairment for the driver, who has been cooperative with law enforcement. The victim, Jose Daniel Carrion Lampin, a 41-year-old local resident, remains in the hospital facing a life-threatening battle due to injuries sustained in the accident.
