Eden Prairie bids farewell to a dedicated public servant as Dispatcher Beth Sams prepares to swiftly step into retirement after over three decades on the job. Since starting in June 1990, Beth has become a familiar voice of calm in times of crisis, serving as one of the integral figures behind the city's own 911 radio system. According to an announcement from the Eden Prairie Police Department's blog, she was part of the original team that transitioned the city from relying on Richfield's services to establishing its independent emergency dispatch.
Beth's tenure is notable not just for her work in dispatch but also for her spirited community involvement. She even volunteered to don the full-body McGruff costume during sweltering summer events—a task few would envy, as per the City of Eden Prairie. This blend of dedication and enthusiasm for outreach has made Beth a cherished member of the EPPD team, embodying the department's core values of service and commitment.
Her humor, loyalty, and approachability have earned Beth deep respect from colleagues, as the department's blog vividly captured: "Beth was known throughout the department for her sense of humor, loyalty and friendly demeanor." These aren't just words of departure but a testimony to Beth's impact on the department and the countless community members she's assisted over the years.
