A tragic incident unfolded in Tipton County on New Year’s Eve when a 73-year-old man and his dog were found dead following a house fire. The Tipton County Fire Department responded to the scene on Crigger Road around 6:50 p.m. after a passerby reported the fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that approximately 25% of the house had been consumed by flames, with the living room fully engulfed.
According to Action News 5, the man, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, and his pet were found deceased inside the home. Efforts to swiftly extinguish the fire were mounted, but the man and his dog did not survive their injuries. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called to assist in the aftermath.
Further investigation by authorities pointed to a malfunctioning wall-mounted propane heater as the origin of the blaze. "As many families gathered to ring in the new year last night, we unfortunately have a family that is mourning the tragic loss of a loved one," Sheriff Shannon Beasley said in a statement obtained by FOX13 Memphis. The Sheriff's Office, alongside multiple fire departments, including Munford and Atoka, collaborated closely during the emergency response.
The community is now coming together to support the grieving family during this difficult period. The autopsy results for the official cause of death are still pending. As information continues to come forward, outlets like WREG report that the fire departments' coordinated response and the ongoing investigation may shed further light on the circumstances of this regrettable event.
