The beloved home transformation show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" has returned to television, with a premiere that aired on January 2 and is now streaming on Hulu. The new season brings a unique twist to the series that has long been known for its emotionally charged renovations for deserving families. As detailed by ABC15, this iteration of the show features Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, the duo behind The Home Edit, as the new hosts.

According to an ABC15 report, the reboot will shift the focus somewhat, incorporating the pair's organized touch from their popular lifestyle brand. "The fact that we’re here building homes for Extreme Makeover," Shearer articulated her enthusiasm during the filming in Mesa. Teplin echoed her sentiment, expressing that the opportunity to shape such dreams was beyond their imagination. Unlike prior seasons, families will no longer be sent on vacation during renovations. Instead, they participate in a dedicated 'edit' of their belongings alongside the hosts, ensuring that their new home setup will be both functional and tailored to their lifestyle.

In a statement obtained by 6abc, Shearer describes a feature of the show known as the Edit Zone. "It's kind of the centerpiece of the show. We remove everything from their previous home set up in a huge space, room by room, all of their items, and walk the family through." She notes that this process often leads to "actual emotional breakthroughs" for the families involved.

The show's commitment to heartfelt storytelling is reinforced by the expertise of Arianne Bellizaire, the interior designer, and Wendell Holland, a "Survivor" winner and furniture designer, who both add to the show's emotional impact. Discussing his connection to the featured families, Holland told 6abc, "These families represent every walk of life. Some families might resonate more with me or with Arianne. But every family, it hits you- you are emotional every time." Bellizaire pointed out the intense excitement that culminates in the show's notorious reveal, saying "By the time we've gotten to move that bus, I can't even explain the exhilaration of that moment." She confessed the deep connection they feel to the transformative work they're doing and the impact it has on families, admitting it often moves her to tears.
