The city of Fayetteville is grappling with a tragic discovery as police announced that Heather Williams, a 25-year-old woman who had been reported missing since January 4, was found deceased on Friday. Williams, last seen entering a light-colored sedan, was considered endangered given her cognitive impairment and struggled with limited speech capability, adding to the urgency of the alert issued statewide for her disappearance.
In what was found in a wooded area near Newark Avenue and State Avenue, her death is now being investigated as a homicide, said the Fayetteville Police Department. Following an exhaustive search, the unsettling news shattered the hopes of her family who had regularly been calling upon the community for assistance and divine intervention for Heather's safe return, as reported by MYFOX8.
A person of interest has been identified by the police in connection to Heather's death, although no details regarding the individual have been revealed. Heather's past, marked by a 2015 accident that significantly challenged her cognitive functions, highlights the disturbing nature of her untimely death.
"Over the years, she's worked really hard, you know, just having a normal life and do normal things that 25-year-olds do, but she was loving and she loved her family and she love Jesus," Mary expressed in sorrow, as per WRAL. Her family, who didn't recognize the sedan she entered on the night of her disappearance, now fear it may have been someone Heather met online.
The desperation in the family's appeals to the public is palpable, with Mary imploring anyone with information to step forward: "I just ask that people out there, if they hear anything or if they see anything, you know, somebody knows something, somebody's talked to somebody, somebody has, you know, they slip up along the way." She added, beckoning to the community's consciousness, "So somebody's got to know something. and you know, i just pray that whoever does know anything comes forward and that we're able to get justice for Heather." As of now, the Fayetteville Police Department has not provided additional information, ensuring the public that their investigation remains active and ongoing.
