
A Fruit Cove Middle School student was hit by a car while riding her bicycle to school on Race Track Road near South Branch Drive earlier today. The St. Johns County sheriff's deputies and fire rescue personnel responded to the scene, where the girl, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was found to be critically injured and subsequently airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
As reported by First Coast News, the incident was confirmed by the St. Johns County School District, the crash occurring in proximity to the middle school. Faced with this perturbing event, the principal of Fruit Cove Middle School Kelly Jacobson promptly issued a statement to the students' families. Witnesses to the accident included students aboard a school bus which was, also en route to Fruit Cove Middle School.

Local authorities have not provided an update on the current condition of the teenage girl. The school district spokesperson also remarked that the affected student was seen by peers, unfortunately being struck by the vehicle while on her way to school.
